The aim of the Lighting Up The Lea project is to preserve the Frederick Kitchen, one of the last boats made by Thames Ironworks, and create a heritage center dedicated to the Lea River's industrial history. The funding will also provide three years of exhibitions, volunteering opportunities, and heritage activities.
Gasworks Dock Partnership, the charity overseeing Cody Dock's development, highlights the importance of raising awareness about the rich heritage of Lower Lea amidst rapid changes. The funding will help illuminate the Lea's history and establish a new heritage center for London.
