FSG have been working tirelessly to set themselves up in a new direction, including the signing of Benfica's Pedro Marques and the return of Michael Edwards.
It was previously reported that Marques would be involved in the search for a new club and then play a role in FSG's management of that side, not directly with Liverpool.
Marques' experience in connection with City has appealed to Liverpool, as he operated in the same Manchester City staff room as former Liverpool sporting director Julian Ward.
Liverpool have already struck a deal to hire sporting director Richard Hughes from Bournemouth, with potential further hires behind the scenes at Anfield.
