According to Microsoft, Kremlin-affiliated troll farms are specifically focusing disinformation campaigns on discrediting Kamala Harris and Tim Walz ahead of the US presidential elections.
Microsoft's Threat Analysis Center reported that Russian troll farms struggled initially after Biden stepped down but later circulated inauthentic videos that gained millions of views.
The disinformation efforts included fabricated narratives, one depicting a false attack by Harris supporters, and another portraying her involvement in a tragic incident, both aimed at damaging her reputation.
Microsoft cautioned that with the election nearing, more disinformation materials, including AI-edited videos, are expected to proliferate online, further threatening the electoral process.
