I think Joe Biden did pretty well on the speech. No major stumbles. He looked in command. He wasn't shouting. I think he delivered it very well. I think the words were fine. It was a well written speech. It hung together.
There's also one reason Reagan is a hard act to follow: For a speech to be great, the man, the moment and the message have to come together. And they did in Reagan because he backed up his lofty words with the military buildup, with arming the Afghans with stingers and so forth, with opposing the Communist expansion in Latin America, deploying the Euro missiles.
