Senator Peter Welch of Vermont has been trying to get President Biden to withdraw from reelection, with more than 20 House Democrats and party leaders like Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi expressing concerns.
Former President Barack Obama has reportedly advised Democrats that Biden should reconsider his candidacy, as the party rapidly turns against him.
Despite Biden's current stance on continuing the race, Senator Welch is confident that mounting evidence will lead Biden to make the decision to step aside in the best interest of the country.
Senator Welch clarified that in the event of Biden's withdrawal, he does not necessarily endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as his successor.
