Koufax struck out Johnny Callison and Dick Allen in the first inning, only allowing a walk to Allen in the fourth, who was later caught stealing. Koufax finished with 12 strikeouts, improving to 6-4 on the season with a 2.34 ERA.
Koufax led with a 1.74 ERA, 2.08 FIP, 0.93 WHIP, and seven shutouts for the 1964 season. Despite a remarkable performance, he placed third in the Cy Young voting and 17th in the MVP race.
