Roy Campanella, paralyzed from the shoulders down after an accident, was celebrated in a pregame ceremony at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum for his achievements and courage.
The Dodgers financially supported Campanella by allocating gate receipt funds, holding a record attendance game, and later commemorating the event with a bobblehead giveaway.
Despite Campanella's tragic accident preventing him from playing for the team in Los Angeles, he was posthumously honored with the retirement of his jersey and induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
