Pressure mounts on MSPs as enterprises flock to managed cybersecurity services
Briefly

Organizations are increasingly relying on managed service providers (MSPs) for cybersecurity due to escalating cyber risks. Over half of MSP leaders believe customers are more vulnerable than last year. Significant numbers of MSPs report heightened scrutiny of their security capabilities, necessitating careful partner selection. To meet rising expectations, MSPs are boosting investments in cybersecurity personnel and compliance. AI has emerged as a top concern, surpassing previous worries about malware, ransomware, and costs. MSPs’ financial commitment towards security enhancements reflects the urgency of addressing these challenges.
“In light of the recent uptick of cyber incidents targeting MSPs, it is unsurprising that customers are scrutinizing MSPs more,” said Jamie Akhtar, CEO and Co-Founder of CyberSmart.
More than half (58%) of MSP leaders believe customers are at more risk today than this time last year, and 84% said that customers now expect them to manage either their cybersecurity infrastructure or their cybersecurity and IT estate combined.
Just over eight-in-ten MSPs have increased their spending on specialist cybersecurity hires, while 78% have upped spending on their security capabilities.
The biggest security worry is AI, which is now the main headache for 38% of MSPs, followed by ransomware or malware, insider threats, and unpatched vulnerabilities.
