Google blocked 2.3M apps in Play Store over security fears
Briefly

Google stopped 2.28 million Android apps from entering its Play Store due to security violations, enforced by updated policies, advanced machine learning, and app review processes.
The new security measures not only helped in preventing malicious apps but also led to the removal of 333,000 accounts and rejection of 200,000 apps for improper handling of sensitive permissions.
In 2023, app rejections increased to 2.28 million, with an unclear number due to sensitive permissions. The counting methodology may explain the rise, now following communication-based measurements mandated by the EU.
Despite improvements, Google didn't catch all violations, as evidenced by a screen recording app that evolved into a snooping app without Google's prior knowledge until flagged by ESET.
