GCHQ issues alert over cyber attackers working on behalf of Iranian government
Briefly

The GCHQ has issued a new alert warning of a threat from targeted phishing attacks being carried out by hackers working on behalf of the Iranian government. Specifically, the National Cyber Security Centre revealed that these cyber attackers, aligned with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), are exploiting social engineering techniques to compromise the online accounts of victims. Those with ties to Iranian and Middle Eastern affairs, including public officials, journalists, and activists, are particularly vulnerable to these threats.
Paul Chichester, director of operations at the National Cyber Security Centre, emphasized the ongoing threat of such cyber activities, asserting: With our allies, we will continue to call out this malicious activity, which jeopardizes the security of individuals’ personal and business accounts. He urged those at higher risk, like political campaign associates, to be vigilant and to utilize the NCSC's free cyber defence resources to bolster their protections against potential phishing and cyber attacks.
