Tick Tactics: Understanding and avoiding ticks
Briefly

The blacklegged or deer tick, capable of transmitting Lyme disease, is a significant threat. Ticks are most active when temperatures are above 0 degrees Celsius and are commonly found in grassy, brushy, and woody areas.
Ticks inject pain-relieving and anti-coagulant substances into their hosts, making it difficult for hosts to detect bites and assisting ticks in feeding. Infected ticks typically need at least 24 hours of feeding to transmit bacteria causing Lyme disease.
