Federal fix for rural hospitals gets few takers so far

"We've been without a hospital for over a year and I don't think anybody in Keokuk or the surrounding areas will be picky in any way, shape, or form," says Keokuk mayor Kathie Mahoney.
The new federal program, which went into effect in January 2023, is meant to stem the closures. But there have been growing pains, says George Pink, deputy director of the North Carolina Rural Health Research Program.
