The Soldatensender was a very popular covert station: some 41% of German soldiers tuned in, and it was one of the top three stations in major German cities, the equivalent of being one of the top cable networks today.
Their aim was not to deceive the listener, but to give cover' to German listeners. Cover so that if the Gestapo or commanding officer caught you listeningyou could claim they thought it was a real Nazi station.
