The Potsdam Synagogue is opening its doors to the public for the first time on Thursday, after almost 20 years in the making, making it the last of Germany's 16 state capitals to have a prominent synagogue.
The construction of the new synagogue in Potsdam took almost two decades, with an architectural competition in 2008 won by Jost Haberland. The process highlighted the diversity of Judaism with competing schools of thought.
