Foreigners celebrate as Germany's long-awaited dual citizenship law enters into force
Briefly

Under the new law, residents can apply for German citizenship after just five years (down from eight), or after three years with exceptional integration achievements and C1 level German. The most significant change is the removal of restrictions on holding multiple nationalities.
Previously, Germany only permitted dual nationality in specific cases, such as being an EU citizen or having refugee status. The law change now allows non-EU citizens to retain their original passports when becoming German, provided their home country permits dual citizenship.
