Santos Alvarado returned to Texas in 2023 after nearly five decades in Germany, aiming to maximize his retirement benefits in a more affordable living environment.
Alvarado now enjoys a financially stable retirement, collecting benefits amounting to $8,500 a month, thanks to multiple sources including Social Security and military pensions.
"I'm financially stable because I'm collecting five retirement paychecks," said Alvarado, highlighting the advantage of dollar-denominated benefits over the fluctuating euro.
Reflecting on his upbringing, Alvarado stated, "My family in Texas was poor, and all of my brothers enlisted for better opportunities."
