In Paris, it is essential to say "bonjour" many times each day. A Parisian lives and breathes bonjours. Skipping the "bonjour" could lead to indifference from customer service.
I've come to dread lifts: saying "bonjour" is compulsory on entering, and "bonne journée" when exiting. This applies every time someone hops in or out!
The question "ça va?" may seem friendly but is often meaningless. Initially, I shared long stories, only to be met with silence and nervous smiles.
Parisians enjoy the bise, or kiss, intricately woven into their culture. The etiquettes around it can be puzzling and require careful navigation.
