Bardella addressed his rival as 'Monsieur Attal' while Attal called him 'Jordan Bardella' - one of the many ways that the French language allows subtle digs.
The French language allows sly slapdowns through the choice of 'tu' versus 'vous'. In 1981, Mitterand's response to being asked if they could keep calling him 'tu' was 'Si vous voulez'.
