France to lift state of emergency in efforts to allow political dialogue in riot-hit New Caledonia

French President Macron lifted the state of emergency in New Caledonia to enable political dialogue following unrest, allowing meetings among various local components to take place.
Even with the state of emergency lifted, a curfew will continue in New Caledonia, banning travel between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. except for essential workers and health emergencies.
Ban on public gatherings, transport, carrying of weapons, and sale of alcohol in New Caledonia to remain, with the main airport closed to commercial traffic until June 2.
