Maybe it's just because I didn't live through it and I only heard stories about it, but I think it was that kind of moment where I thought, 'Oh wow, this actually happened. It was actually my family.'
'When I was younger, there must have been an anniversary of the last spike or the handing over of the last spike to Chinese railway workers. I remember boycotting a festival because they didn’t do anything for that anniversary,' Gillian Der shares.
