With Caligula: The Ultimate Cut, producer Thomas Negovan and editor Aaron Shaps sought to restore some of the artistic integrity of the film, using the raw footage to cut a brand-new, 178-minute version, with not a single shot that was used in the original.
On Instagram, McDowell wrote Thanks to Tom Negovan and his team, the film has re-emerged from the total mess of the Guccione porn film into a beautiful film. It's now something I can be proud of.
