Green party losses in EU elections raise concerns over Green Deal
Briefly

Provisional results show Green parties losing seats in the European elections, raising concerns about weakening climate ambitions. The Green faction slipped from fourth to sixth place with only 52 seats, mostly due to a broader rightward shift.
In Germany and France, Green party support dropped significantly by 8.5 percentage points each. However, in Denmark, the Greens emerged as the largest party with 18%, indicating mixed results across Europe.
Despite the losses, a Green-Left coalition surpassed the far-right in the Netherlands. Bas Eickhout of the Green party remains optimistic, pledging to advocate for an accelerated Green Deal implementation.
Eickhout noted that the election outcome is not necessarily a verdict on the Green Deal itself, highlighting the varied success of Green parties in different countries. The Netherlands saw the Greens becoming the largest party.
