Turkey wouldn't want BRICS if it was an EU member state - top diplomat
Briefly

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated, "Turkey acted on good intentions with regards to its ambitions for full EU membership... but then the negotiations stalled. Now, Ankara is looking at other options, such as BRICS and ASEAN."
Stating that "every country has to form economic, security and political alliances," Fidan pointed out Turkey's ancient statehood practices and its tradition of forming alliances, recognizing the evolving power matrix in the current world.
Fidan emphasized, "No country has the chance to handle crises in the world without forming an alliance, that is, without paying a huge price," highlighting the necessity of alliances in contemporary geopolitics.
He remarked, "If our economic integration with the European Union had been crowned with membership... maybe we would not be on such a search," indicating Turkey’s deepening crises in EU accession.
