Slovakian Prime Minister Fico was shot five times in an assassination attempt while greeting people in Handlova. He underwent surgery and is no longer in a life-threatening condition.
The gunman, a 71-year-old writer, is in custody, with officials pointing to political motivations for the attack. Fico's deputy mentioned that he is expected to survive.
