Russia says it's the bigger person for not cutting Europe's natural gas supply - but that's not all there is to it

"We are decent people. We signed long-term contracts with Europe," Lavrov said, reaffirming Russia's commitment to supply gas despite the geopolitical tensions. He emphasized that both parties benefit from the energy deals, clarifying that mutual cooperation is preferable to cutting off supplies, as it would hurt Russia financially.

Lavrov pointedly remarked, "If cooperation is mutually beneficial, why shoot yourself in the foot?" This statement illustrates Russia’s understanding of the economic interdependence fostered by energy contracts with Europe, especially under the current sanctions.
