"We live in a very dangerous world," said EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell during the announcement of the security partnership with Japan, emphasizing that partnerships among friends are essential to address growing global threats.
Borrell remarked, "The agreement represents a historical and very timely step given the situation in both of our regions," highlighting the EU's first security agreement with an Asia Pacific country amidst rising tensions.
"North Korea's missile tests and military cooperation with Russia escalate the regional threats, underscoring the need for strengthened ties and joint exercises between the EU and Japan," Borrell noted.
The partnership aims to bolster military ties and defense industry exchanges in response to increased military activities from China and Russia, with Borrell detailing strategic dialogues with other Asia Pacific nations.
