In the autumn of 2024, the EU will introduce a new border system, the EU Entry/Exit System (EES), to digitally capture data of non-EU citizens upon crossing external Schengen borders.
Non-EU travelers will need to register in an EU-wide database, potentially causing concerns of delays, especially in the UK with its juxtaposed border controls.
Certain groups, such as EU citizens, residents, long-stay visa holders, and family members of EU citizens, are exempt from registering in the EES system.
