President Biden stated: 'Journalism is not a crime, and Evan went to Russia to do his job as a reporter,' calling Gershkovich's confinement wholly unjust and illegal.
Putin recently mentioned being open to a prisoner exchange, suggesting the possibility of Gershkovich's return to the U.S., while a Russian court extended the journalist's detention until at least June 30.
