Cyprus to join European power grid following deal with Greece
Briefly

The Electricity Connection will contribute towards lifting the energy isolation of Cyprus and connecting the national electricity transport system with the respective European ones. This project is of strategic importance not only for Cyprus and Greece, but for the whole of the EU, highlighting the ambition to integrate energy systems and enhance regional cooperation.
Cyprus aims to join the European power grid by 2028 or 2030, facilitated by an interstate agreement signed with Greece. This agreement was finalized amid complex negotiations covering shared costs, due diligence, and the cost-benefit dynamic. The breakthrough in these discussions underscores the determination to address Cyprus’s energy isolation and bolster its connectivity to Europe.
The project, at a cost of 1.9 billion euros, aims to link Cyprus's energy networks to the mainland European grid through a cable stretching 1,240 km. With funding from the EU amounting to 657 million euros, it promises to be the world's longest high-voltage cable and will significantly enhance energy security and connectivity in the region.
