School hit by Raac to spend 2m on temporary classrooms
Briefly

St Gregory's Catholic Science College in Kenton will spend up to 2 million on temporary classrooms due to dangerous reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (Raac) in the maths block, used from the 1950s to 70s.
Temporary accommodation for repairs is expected to conclude by the end of 2024, following further inspection showing the original plan of resolving the issue over a weekend was insufficient.
Temporary units at the school include a two-storey, six-classroom block, along with art and bathroom facilities, to be positioned on the existing playground space inside the locally listed Woodcock Park.
Local groups like the Friends of Woodcock Park raised concerns about the temporary buildings, seeking guarantees that the site will be restored to its original state after repairs are completed.
