Peabody educator reinstated after review of Charlie Kirk post
"It is important that our community work together to foster greater understanding and respect opinions that differ from our own,"
"We hope that the same things students are learning in the classroom, including how to engage in debate thoughtfully, the importance of empathy, and how to be a critical thinker, can find their way back into our public discourse,"
"ensure that due process is upheld and the needs of students are put first."
"unnecessary disruptions moving forward."
An educator in Peabody who had been placed on leave following a social media post about the shooting death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk will return to the classroom on Oct. 1 after an investigation found no rule violations. Peabody Public Schools and the Peabody Federation of Teachers jointly concluded the educator did not break district policies. A joint statement urged the community to foster understanding, respect differing opinions, thoughtful debate, empathy, and critical thinking in public discourse. One of two teachers placed on leave resigned in September. The American Federation of Teachers thanked local officials for upholding due process and pledged to help prevent unnecessary disruptions.
