Mountain lion prompts lockdown at Aptos High School

The front office began receiving calls from parents reporting the lion near the school's baseball field, walking towards the main entrance/archway, then along a fence intersecting with Freedom Boulevard.
The lockdown lasted until about 1:28 p.m. School resource officer and backup conducted a sweep to ensure the mountain lion had left, deciding not to involve wildlife groups.
Principal Hanks-Sloan mentioned the challenges of having a school in a canyon/valley, leading to potential encounters with wildlife like mountain lions.
