UK says it has 'no legal obligation' to accept asylum seekers from Ireland and will not do so as row deepens

It's up to the UK government who we do and do not accept into the country. Meanwhile, senior Government sources played down Gardai policing areas around the border, saying Gardaí will be taken off "desk duties" which will be filled in by civil servants from the Department of Justice instead.
Justice Minister Helen McEntee is to push ahead with new laws aimed at allowing the deportation of asylum-seekers to the UK - even though the government there has said it will not accept them.
