Budapest district proposes referendum to ban Airbnb
Briefly

Critics argue that while Airbnb boosts the local economy, it simultaneously exacerbates property price increases in Budapest, raising concerns about housing affordability for residents.
District Mayor Tamas Soproni emphasized the necessity of the referendum, stating, "Unfortunately, the reason why we ask this question is because we have no other legislative option. There is only so much that municipalities can do."
A local resident's perspective highlighted that a "blanket ban" might not be appropriate, suggesting that while regulation is necessary, it could introduce its own challenges.
The upcoming vote mirrors actions taken in other European cities, like Barcelona, that have implemented caps or voiced intentions to restrict or eliminate short-term rentals.
