When asked about the crime statistics in the city, Farrell paid no attention to them. 'Just ask anyone in the city if they feel safer,' he said. 'Universally, in every neighborhood, the response I get is 'no'.
Farrell's main campaign points include increasing the police force, cleaning up homeless encampments, and replacing the chief of police, all aimed at addressing his No. 1 campaign issue: public safety.
Farrell mentioned that during his previous time in office, public safety was not a major concern. Despite higher property crimes in 2014 (12% more) and violent crimes (25% more) than now, residents worried more about gentrification and housing affordability.
