Ravinder Sharma and Haroon Abdullah, the drivers with the oldest cabs on NYC streets at the end of 2023, had to replace their aged 2011 Ford Crown Victoria cabs with new Toyota RAV4s due to regulatory age restrictions.
Sharma and Abdullah shared the sentimental attachment to their Crown Victorias as they switched to the more compact and modern Toyota RAV4s, with different advantages such as better handling on NYC roads that are notoriously rough.
The NYC taxi regulation agency had set a seven-year age limit for cabs, signaling the mandatory retirement of the heavily used Crown Victorias that have served countless miles shuttling passengers across the vibrant city.
Sharma remarked on the spacious back seat and comfort of the Crown Victoria, contrasting it with the more maneuverable RAV4 that meets better the demands of navigating through the challenging road conditions of NYC.
