With the exception of The Simpsons (35 years and counting), those that do tend to be middle-of-the-road US series like Law & Order, Grey's Anatomy and Blue Bloods, which command loyal audiences who know what they like (predictability) and like what they know, or soap operas, which are as hard to kill off as cockroaches.
