Vodafone has been ramping up its activities in the field of Open RAN since 2020, aiming for 30% of its European masts based on Open RAN technology by 2030.
The operator is already deploying Open RAN commercially, with 2,500 Open RAN sites in the UK and Romania, making it the first large-scale deployment in Europe.
Vodafone partnered with Nokia, highlighting the wider adoption of open, disaggregated, and automated networks, enabling the quick launch of innovative services.
The trial showcased Nokia's AirScale Massive MIMO radios, baseband software on Dell servers, Red Hat OpenShift, intelligent networking management, and anyRAN approach for Cloud RAN networks.
