Royal Mint unveils brand new 50p coin to mark 80th anniversary of D-Day landings
Briefly

The design of the tails side of the 50p coin shows Allied soldiers landing in Normandy guided by a warplane overhead. The coin inscription includes the names of five assault beaches: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword.
French sand artist Jehan-Benjamin Tarain recreated the D-Day 80 coin design on Gold beach as a 35-meter sand art piece. The Royal Mint's director remarked on the coin's role in commemorating the bravery and sacrifice of troops during D-Day.
