Narsighar House / Sanjay Puri Architects
Briefly

Situated in the arid desert region of Nokha in Rajasthan, India, the Narsighar house imbibes the traditional planning principles of the regional architecture prevalent since centuries in Rajasthan.
The Narsighar house is punctuated with a series of courtyards and built in the local sandstone available in the immediate vicinity. Each living space opens into sheltered outdoor spaces screened with perforated stone panels.
Elements of traditional Rajasthan architecture such as multifoil arched windows, patterned stone screens, stone pergolas, inlay work, and carving work accentuate the spaces. Local craftsmen executed the entire house, reviving traditional techniques.
Over 40% of the area is open courtyards, circulation spaces, and patios. Each volume is articulated individually, creating a composition of varying volumes. Entry includes a sunlit courtyard and sheltered stone arcade for passive cooling.
