When readers come to our site, they want to know about the stories that matter to them, those are the ones they’re going to tell their friends about and share on social media.
The Atlantic has dropped an “Analysis” section in favor of stories that are more “breaking, newsier, and more assertive.” According to editor in chief Jeffrey Goldberg, readers want more than just information – they want a strong point of view.
An unnamed editor at NBC News says the same. A good example is their decision to have their White House reporter be more opinionated – it’s about adding energy to the news process.
Every time someone clicks on a story, they’re essentially taking time out of their day to read it. So, news outlets need to ensure that the stories they produce are worthy of the reader's time.
