Twenty-two percent of adults aged 65 and older are continuing to work, with nearly a quarter of that group choosing self-employment to delay retirement.
In New Jersey, the share of seniors still working has increased significantly by more than 66% from March 2022 to March 2024, with other states like Delaware and Indiana also seeing notable rises.
The data indicates a decrease in the overall retirement rate nationwide over the past two years, with certain states such as Iowa, West Virginia, and Kansas experiencing significant drops in the percentage of retired individuals.
