Cases of whooping cough have surged this year, reaching levels higher than those seen before the COVID-19 pandemic, amidst ongoing warnings from the CDC.
Pennsylvania has the highest number of whooping cough cases this year with 1,489, followed closely by another state with 1,266 infections.
The CDC attributes the rise in whooping cough cases in part to a return to pre-pandemic trends as protective measures like masking have diminished.
Reported cases this year have tripled compared to the same time last year, with over 10,000 pertussis cases documented so far.
