New malaria vaccine delivered for the first time

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus expressed optimism about having safe and effective malaria vaccines: 'Now we have two' - RTS,S and R21/Matrix-M, targeting children aged 5 to 36 months.
Dyann Wirth, chair of the WHO Malaria Policy Advisory Group, explained the mechanism of the new vaccine, stating: 'A vaccine recruits the human immune system to fight the parasite as soon as it enters the body.'
