Ciara Kelly: It used to be religion and politics we weren't to talk about. Now, it's immigration, transgenderism...
Briefly

Is there anything grubbier than the UK Covid-19 inquiry? Former members of the political elite rushing to lay blame anywhere but at their own feet. At least the UK is having a public inquiry - our equivalent is not due to be up and running until next year. Perhaps because our politicians have more sense, or perhaps because Covid-19 is one of the many things we don't talk about. You know what I mean, things such as: Covid-19: Did we get it right? To be honest, I don't think so. Yes, we saved some lives but delayed diagnoses due to the semi-closed health service appear to have resulted in an elevated death rate post pandemic anyway. And were the (mostly elderly) people we were protecting really better off? When they only saw their families through windows? Many still live with a persistent level of fear to this day and those who died, died alone with no one at their funeral. All on top of our young people - who were at negligible risk from Covid-19 - missing out on education and developmental milestones, not to mention the nation's mental health ending up in the bin. I suspect in time we'll see that Sweden probably handled it best by not enforcing strict lockdown rules - but will anyone care by then?
