Big drop in Covid deaths here last year, but highly infectious strain is fuelling winter infection surge

Nearly one in two deaths have been linked to outbreaks of the virus, with the highest percentage in nursing homes followed by hospitals.

There have been 23 Covid-related deaths among healthcare workers, according to the report from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC).
