It's tough to describe exactly what a caramel roll is, yet every Midwesterner seems to know. It's not a sticky bun, and it's not just a cinnamon roll either. A caramel roll is a large cinnamon bun that is soft, plush, buttery, cinnamon-y, drenched in caramel, and sometimes includes nuts.
With great respect to classic caramel rolls, I developed a recipe that stays true to what I know and love. They're simple enough to make using common ingredients and have the perfect amount of caramel.
