The White Sox have outrighted infielder Zach Remillard to Triple-A Charlotte after he cleared waivers, adding uncertainty to his future placement in the team's lineup.
Remillard, a 30-year-old utilityman, has struggled in both MLB and Triple-A this season, hitting significantly better in MLB games than in Charlotte.
Despite the option to elect free agency, Remillard accepted the outright assignment in April, giving the rebuilding White Sox a potential path to utilize him in major league games later this season.
The White Sox might look to trade shortstop Paul DeJong, considering the lack of offensive production from Nicky Lopez and other players in key infield positions.
