In a complaint filed, the Environmental Democracy Project alleges that Tesla has exposed residents and workers to harmful pollutants since January 2021, mainly through its paint shop operations.
The lawsuit seeks to halt excess pollution and impose civil fines of up to $121,275 per day per violation of the Clean Air Act on Tesla.
Tesla's emissions abatement system has reportedly broken down repeatedly, leading to 112 notices of violation since 2019, accumulating up to 750 pounds of illegal air pollution each.
