AAA survey shows many still reticent about buying electric cars
Briefly

Cost concerns and a lack of charging infrastructure remain the primary barriers to electric vehicle adoption, as highlighted by the AAA Northeast survey of New York and New England residents, where over half don't plan to buy an electric car.
Alec Slatky, AAA Northeast's managing director, mentioned, 'It's kind of a dichotomy of people who either think they'll get one soon or they're not interested at all. You have to meet the consumers where they are.' He emphasized the need for better public charging options to cater to people's concerns.
Despite Long Island having over 100 charging stations, many drivers still feel wary about using public charging. Rosemary Mascali noted that finding stations isn't the issue; rather, it's the apprehension around fully recharging vehicles that discourages adoption.
The survey indicates a split in consumer sentiment on electric vehicles—37% may buy one by 2035, while 8% expressed interest only after 2036, when gas-powered cars may be phased out due to government regulations.
